Amazon makes its way to Northwest Arkansas
Lowell, AR
If Northwest Arkansas happened to need another reason to show off its recent growth and prosperity, they got it last year when Amazon came to town.
In March 2022, Crossland completed work on 18,000 SF of parking, loading zones, truck docks, and entrances for the new 60,000 SF Amazon facility in Lowell, Arkansas. The “last mile” facility, which means it’s the last stop before packages are delivered to customers, is the second of its kind in Arkansas.
The project included the addition of a loading area of nearly 18,000 SF under a structural steel canopy supported by spread footings and pilasters.
While the project officially kicked off in July 2021, much of the work took place in the heart of a very cold, snowy winter. This meant the Crossland team had to be particularly careful and considerate when scheduling asphalt finishes and substituting for concrete to hit the launch date.
To overcome the weather challenges, the team used unique techniques to prepare areas for asphalt, which had to be done before the asphalt plants shut down.
Despite those challenges, the project was completed on time and under budget, and the Lowell area now has a new facility that brought more than 200 jobs to the area.
The facility also brings Amazon Flex to the area, allowing local residents to make money by using their personal vehicles to deliver packages.
About the project, Lowell Mayor Chris Moore said: “Being located in the geographic center of Northwest Arkansas, Lowell is an ideal location for final transportation of Amazon’s goods and a reliable source of a highly skilled workforce for these new jobs.”
