Union Baseball and Softball Field Improvements
Union athletes equipped with a sports facilities for the stars
Tulsa, OK
Initially planned for 2022, renovations to Union’s baseball and softball fields at the Union High School Freshman Academy in Broken Arrow, OK, were moved up due to the early availability of funds as part of Union Public Schools’ 5-year bond issue approved by voters in February 2018.
The school district selected Crossland to build this state-of-the-art 240,000 SF facility, complete with a turf field and drainage system, batting cages, bullpens, a champion wall, backstop net, and dugouts.
The amount of detail involved in this project highlighted Crossland’s ability to perform. Our concrete finishers hand-formed the pitching mounds to set the mounds’ foundation and shape so we could lay the turf directly onto the concrete.
As with any project, challenges do arise. The original design for the softball field stretched into the City of Tulsa’s highway easement, which halted construction and impacted the schedule. To make up for lost time, the team doubled down and constructed both fields at the same time, so it was ready for opening day.
This project will shine a whole new light on the baseball and softball programs within the district. The level of quality on the project will bring in elite college recruiters to come and see the talented athletes that Union has to offer.
