WSU Flats
Strategic project phasing gets students in their new housing before school starts
Wichita, KS
Crossland Construction Company was selected to lead Wichita State University’s Design/Build team on their new Student Housing Facility, ‘The Flats at WSU’. The 232,000 square foot building has 113 units and 286 beds, and a contract value of $24 million. An underground parking garage became part of the design, as well. With an extremely tight schedule, we stayed ahead of all deliveries, from structural systems to finishes, to make sure that the building was ready for occupancy as promised.
Setting the project up in phases helped maximize both our time and our resources. In eleven short months, the project was turned over to the University in time for the start of the 2017 fall semester. Crossland crews self-performed the concrete slab on grade foundation, the post-tension concrete slab, the mass excavation of the basement/parking garage, the shoring of existing utilities, and the backfill and final grading.
