Jasper County – New Courthouse
Yet another new municipal facility for all Jasper County
Joplin, MO
Courthouse upgrade in Joplin
When you’re dealing with criminals, prisoners, and all sorts of heightened emotions, public safety, and security are essential.
With the current facility upgrade, the people who work inside the new Jasper County Courthouse in Joplin, Missouri, are in good hands.
This courthouse was part of Jasper County’s seven-year, $66.8 million investment in new structures for the county’s law enforcement, courts, and jail facilities.
Public Safety
Completed in January 2023, the new 84,000 SF courthouse features many state-of-the-art security and communications systems. It’s also set up so that prisoners being transported will no longer be in the same area as the general public.
The $32 million courthouse boasts several interesting features, such as a large, canopied plaza entrance. The exterior of the building is architectural aluminum panels and curtain wall glazing.
The interior features high-end millwork, terrazzo flooring, and a grand staircase in the atrium. The new facility also features architectural metal column wraps.
What Lies Beneath
A mineshaft was discovered in the basement during construction, which was a significant challenge. Our teams proactively tackled this project’s unique challenges of material delays and volatile pricing, ensuring we stayed on top of the situation.
One of the challenges we encountered was the presence of substantially high ceilings, which necessitated extensive coordination of MEP ductwork, electrical, and plumbing systems. Working in such high and tight spaces made it challenging to ensure a proper fit and smooth flow of these components. However, Crossland was fortunate to have a strong working relationship with the architect on the project. Through diligent communication and coordination, we successfully overcame these challenges.
