Golden Driller Plaza
Enhancing an Icon: Crossland Transforms Tulsa’s Golden Driller Plaza
Tulsa, OK
The Golden Driller has stood tall in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for decades, serving as a beloved landmark and a must-see stop for visitors along Route 66. Originally built as a temporary exhibit for the International Petroleum Exposition in the 1950s, its overwhelming popularity led to its permanent installation. In 1979, the Oklahoma Legislature officially designated it as the state monument.
Starting in 2021, Crossland was honored to play a role in revitalizing the Expo Square Plaza, the gateway to this historic statue. As part of a $3.1 million enhancement project, our team installed:
• Colored concrete to elevate aesthetics and durability
• Modern shade structures for visitor comfort
• Site furnishings for seating and functionality
• Landscaping improvements to enhance the overall atmosphere
Despite supply chain challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, our team successfully delivered the project on time and within budget by August 2023. Tulsa County Commissioners emphasized how the upgrades would enrich the experience for both locals and the thousands of visitors who stop for a photo with the Golden Driller.
At Crossland, we take pride in enhancing spaces that hold deep cultural significance. Working on a landmark that sees daily foot traffic from travelers and locals alike was a rewarding experience—one that reinforces our commitment to delivering high-quality public space improvements.
