ALDI #08 – Overland Park, KS
Flagship ALDI store in Overland Park, KS
Overland Park, KS
From 2008 to 2018, the ALDI grocery store chain doubled its number of stores in the U.S., making them America’s fastest-growing food retailer. Overland Park, KS, continues to expand into southern Johnson County. ALDI hired Crossland to build its newest store in that booming suburb of the Kansas City metro area.
This Overland Park ALDI store’s design features Aldi’s latest concept, with open ceilings, a slanted roof and tower in the front, and a storefront full of windows to capture the natural light.
The area ALDI chose for the new Overland Park store was essentially a low-lying, untouched rural greenspace, so a substantial amount of excavation and site preparation was necessary before building construction. First, Crossland had to raise the site by five feet with fill and install an extensive water detention system.
Given the location, the scope of work also included a new road and turn lane and improvements to the main street leading to the building. A sizeable amount of landscaping completed the job. All-in-all, this project was the largest site package Crossland has undertaken for the ALDI chain.
Notably, ALDI is utilizing this Overland Park store as their flagship model and will host executives from their corporate office at this location when they request to visit a store. We were proud to finish this significant project for Aldi on time and within budget.
