71st Street Drying Bed Improvements

Wastewater Treatment Plants

Tulsa, Oklahoma

Brief Summary

Drying beds are the most widely used method of municipal wastewater sludge dewatering in the United States. The city of Tulsa, OK hired Crossland to remove an existing drying bed and replace it with a new concrete slab, concrete walls, and concrete divider. Additionally, crews installed a new 38,000 SF metal canopy that covers the entire drying bed, and a new light system.Canopy installation over a drying bed is a relatively new idea. The purpose of the canopy is to keep the drying bed out of the weather elements, allowing the sludge to dry and be removed from the site more quickly. If Tulsa approves of the way the canopy performs, they plan to cover additional drying beds throughout their metro area.
