Building Memphis Awards — Names Crossland Construction as Finalist
3 May, 2016
Memphis, Tennessee – Crossland Construction Company, Inc was among the finalists at this year’s annual Building Memphis awards for their contributions to the West Memphis, Arkansas Southland Park Gaming and Racing complex. A panel of independent judges considered various factors — from the design’s functionality to sustainability elements to a project’s impact on the local economy — to select winners in each of the six categories.
A State-of-the-Art Gaming and Racing Park
The Southland Park Gaming and Racing project involved a 200,000 square foot casino renovation featuring over 2,500 gaming options, a competitive dog track with viewing mezzanines, gourmet restaurants, and a Vegas style bar. The facility’s previous event center, gift shop, and Players Rewards Club were demolished to make room for the expanded gaming floor, circular sports bar, and lounge areas. The 700-guest event center was then relocated to the Mezzanine level, along with a banquet hall and food-prep area overlooking the track. The World Market Buffet was also expanded to allow for increased kitchen and service space. Mechanical and electrical components were updated as well. Interiorly, custom floor coverings, including boldly colored carpet and white granite with a custom logo in-lay, create a truly unique feel. Custom wood wall panels, ceiling tiles, and three dimensional wall tiles give texture and depth to the space. Crossland Construction served as Construction Manager on this wide-scale renovation that required not only aesthetic work, but also considerable work to the building’s infrastructure.
