Springfield Fire Station No. 7
New Fire Station 7 Rebuild in Springfield, MO
Springfield, MO
Out with the old, and in with the new in Springfield, Missouri.
This $3.5 million, 6,300 SF Fire Station 7 project completely replaced the previous structure, which dated back to the 1950s. Crossland Construction managed both the demolition of the old station and the construction of the new facility, delivering a modern, efficient space for the Springfield Fire Department.
The exterior finishes included brick veneer and aluminum storefront, while the interior truck bays featured durable and versatile Concrete Masonry Units (CMU) block construction. The living quarters were wood-framed and designed for comfort and functionality, with tile floors and walls in the restrooms, sealed concrete floors throughout, and acoustical ceilings in the living areas. The truck bays maintained an industrial feel with an exposed ceiling design.
As a LEED-certified project, this build required additional attention to waste recycling, the use of sustainable materials, and air quality testing.
One significant challenge on this project was the limited job site space, as the station was located next to a busy street with minimal room for staging construction activities. To overcome this, Crossland implemented a meticulously planned site logistics strategy, ensuring materials and equipment were delivered and stored efficiently without disrupting traffic or construction progress. Collaboration with the fire department proved invaluable, as they facilitated temporary street closures for large deliveries, allowing for safe and timely handling of oversized materials. This proactive coordination enabled Crossland to maintain the project schedule and minimize disruptions to the surrounding community.
As a gesture of appreciation, Crossland gifted a grill to the fire station upon completion, marking the start of a new chapter for Fire Station 7.
