District 121 Adds to McKinney's Vibrant Scene
McKinney, TX
Offering a “dynamic mix of leisure, dining, and entertainment,” District 121 has quickly become a premier destination in McKinney, Texas.
This $10.1 million mixed-use development blends beautifully designed green spaces and an event stage with bustling dining and retail spots. Crossland was proud to lead the construction of the park and stage area, as well as erecting the shell buildings used for dining and shopping.
The core and shell exterior finishes included brick, EIFS, and canopies along the building walkways. Notably, the architectural canopies provided by Classic were later painted on by the owners using their own artists, adding a unique custom touch.
One of the challenges during construction involved the stained concrete walkways, which were added as a corrective measure for cracking and imperfections in the concrete. Initially, the owner proposed demolishing and replacing the walkways.
Crossland suggested a collaboration with Beam Concrete to resolve the issue efficiently, ensuring a high-quality result.
Managing landscape drainage was a unique challenge, as the turf areas were in locations where drainage lines couldn’t be installed until later in the project. Careful planning and strategic coordination were required to protect the area during ongoing heavy construction.
Limited parking and laydown space presented logistical challenges, which were compounded when tenants began occupying their buildings before construction was fully complete. Crossland adapted to these circumstances, working diligently to minimize disruptions and maintain steady project progress.
The finished project is a vibrant, dynamic space that has enhanced McKinney’s entertainment scene, creating a destination where the community can come together to enjoy dining, shopping, and leisure activities.
