Building Bigger and Better: The World's Largest Car Wash at Buc-ee's Terrell

The Buc-ee’s in Terrell, Texas, held the title of the world’s largest gas station. So, how do you take something already iconic and make it even more legendary? Simple: you add the world’s largest car wash.

Enter Crossland Construction.

Our task? A $13.8 million, 12,500-square-foot car wash—more than just a building, it was a statement. Buc-ee’s wanted to take their customer experience to the next level, and we were all in.

Picture This: The exterior features a vibrant, hand-painted mural on the north side, standing out proudly over the EIFS facade. Inside, it’s all about quality—integral colored block, custom overhead doors, and top-of-the-line car wash equipment that makes sure every car leaves shining. Because if you’re going to be the biggest, you better be the best.

Challenges? Accepted. The project was not without its challenges. Faced with extremely tight deadlines and design alterations, our teams had to be as nimble as a cat on a hot tin roof. After part of the building was up, construction was paused to consider the roof elevation. Fortunately, we proceeded with the initially designed elevation.

Underground coordination was crucial for installing pits, vacuums, and airlines. Plus, we had to shut down the power to Buc-ee’s store—no small feat for a place that prides itself on being open 24/7. It took months of careful planning with Buc-ee’s team to hook up generators and keep everything running smoothly for their loyal customers.

We Deliver, No Matter What. Despite the hurdles, our team pulled through. Not only did we finish on time and on budget, but we also managed to save the owner $30,000 by sourcing the best-priced boilers. It’s those little victories that make a big difference.

We don’t build car washes like this every day, so this project was something unique—both challenging and rewarding. But, as always, our team went above and beyond, delivering a high-quality product we’re all proud of. Now, the world’s largest gas station has the world’s largest car wash, and our fingerprints are all over it.
