Norman Regional Opens New $14.6 Million Behavioral Health Center in Oklahoma: Expanding Access and Doubling Capacity
Norman, OK
The new $14.6 million, 36,000 SF Behavioral Health Center at Porter Health Village in Norman, Oklahoma, significantly enhances access to behavioral health services. This freestanding 48-bed hospital, located on the Norman Regional Porter campus, effectively replaces the existing 20-bed unit and doubles the inpatient capacity for behavioral health patients.
The building’s exterior combines glass, metal panels, and wood-look soffits and wall panels, with strategically placed lighting that highlights these finishes during early morning and nighttime hours.
Inside, the hospital features standard hospital-grade finishes, including easily cleanable surfaces, LVT flooring, and wall protection, complemented by ligature-resistant lights, HVAC grilles, plumbing fixtures, and furniture—elements essential for patient safety in mental health facilities.
A key challenge was unexpected utilities running through the construction site, which required careful management and eventual relocation without delaying progress. Additionally, the project faced nearly 40 weather days due to significant rainfall, challenging our self-perform crews to extend work hours, including weekends and holidays, to maintain the schedule.
This rigorous effort culminated in successfully completing a vital healthcare facility that significantly expands behavioral health services for the community in south central Oklahoma, a result we take great pride in.
