The Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant Activated Sludge Train Rehabilitation project was a Crossland Heavy Contractors contract that exceeded $11 million. The project includes a new 5,000 square foot Blower Building that houses five 1,000 horsepower Continental Blower units. Four aeration basins were completely stripped of outdated equipment and each covered with a series of steel air piping, two 100 foot long by 25 feet high concrete baffle walls, and 5,700 PVC diffusers were installed on the floor of each basin. The metal troughs were removed from four final clarifiers, as were the perimeters, and were replaced by 20 foot long precast concrete trough sections. New weirs and FRP lauder covers were then installed to complete the work. The new outfall structure consists of a 16 by 16 foot hole 30+ feet deep. A slide rail system was implemented for the shoring system. The project was delivered on time and on budget. Heavy teams self-performed approximately 80% of the entire project.
